The Constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote in the June 8th, 2021 Democratic Primary.

The Office of the General Registrar, at 15080 Courthouse Road, Sussex, VA, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For the convenience of voters casting absentee ballots in person, the office also will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on:

  • Saturday, May 29th, 2021 & Saturday June 5th, 2021

 2020 Elections


November 3rd, 2020 General and Special Election

The Constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote. Tuesday, Oct 13th, 2020 is the last day to register in which to vote in the November 3rd, 2020 General and Special Election.

The Office of the General Registrar, at 15080 Courthouse Road, Sussex, VA, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For the convenience of voters casting absentee ballots in person, the office also will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on: Saturday, Oct. 24th, 2020 & Saturday Oct. 31st, 2020

The Registrar will also be available at the following times and locations for the purpose of voter registration:

  • Waverly Housing Building on Friday, October 9th from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Jarratt Senior Citizen Center on Saturday, October 10th from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Sussex County 2020 Town Elections - Tuesday, May 19, 2020

The Constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote in the Sussex County Town Elections held on May 19, 2020 (Election date changed per Governor's Executive Order 59)

Residents of the Towns may Register to Vote or Update their Voter Registration Online or In Person at the General Registrar’s Office.

Due to the Coronavirus Outbreak, please consider applying to vote Absentee By Mail.

You may request an Absentee Application Online or over the phone:  434-246-1045

For the convenience of Eligible Citizens, the Voter Registration Office located at the Sussex Government Complex will be open for Absentee Voting:

  • Monday-Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Saturday, May 16, 2020 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The last day to Register or update your address is April 13, 2020 by 5PM.

The last day to request Absentee By Mail is May 12, 2020 until 5 PM, In Person Absentee is available until May 16, 2020.

2020 Democratic Presidential Primary Order

WHEREAS a notice in proper form has been received from the appropriate authority requesting the calling of a Primary Election for the purpose of selecting delegates to the national convention for the Democratic Party for the office of President of the United States. Should only one candidate qualify for the primary ballot for the office, no primary will be held. 

THEREFORE, you are, in the name of the Commonwealth and pursuant to $ 24.2-517 of the Code of Virginia, ordered to cause a Primary Election to be held in your locality on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, for the purpose aforesaid. You are further ordered to post a copy of this order on the official website of the county or city, at not less than 10 public places in the county or city, or have the order published at least once in a newspaper of general circulation in your locality.

Voter Deadlines

  • Deadline to register to vote, or update an existing registration, is Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
  • Deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you isTuesday, October 29, 2019. Your request must be received by your Registrar by 5:00 p.m.
  • Deadline to vote in-person absentee is Saturday, November 2, 2019.
