PaymentsSussex County accepts payments in person at 15074 Courthouse Rd. Sussex, Va. 23884 in the form of cash, checks, money orders and credit or debit cards. Debit and credit card payments are accepted in the office only and the card must be swiped at the time of the transaction. There is an administrative fee on all credit and debit card transactions.

Payments may also be made at any of the following banks prior to the deadline of December 5th:

  • BSV, Bank of Southside Virginia – Jarratt, Va., Stony Creek, Va., and Wakefield, Va.
  • BB&T, Branch Banking and Trust – Wakefield, Va.
  • EVB, Eastern Virginia Bank – Waverly, Va.

*Payments postmarked on or before the deadline will be considered timely.

Prepaid Taxes

Prepaying your Personal Property or Real Estate is recommended to anyone who wishes to pay taxes at a more suitable time other than December 5th. Send us your payment and specify whether to apply it to personal property or real estate taxes. Your taxes can be estimated from the prior year.

Payment Plans

A payment plan of 4 equal installments will be offered to any taxpayer on or before the deadline of the 2 nd notice which is normally due February 5th annually. The first payment is due upon origination of payment plan. No collection actions or DMV stops will be placed on any taxpayer with a valid plan in effect. Payments must continue to be paid on time or payment plan will be in default and collection actions will proceed.
