ROUTE 610 BRIDGE WORK TO BEGIN IN SUSSEX COUNTY
Detour scheduled to start as early as Sept. 13

Beginning as early as Sept. 13, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Route 610 (Harrell Road) in Sussex County for a full superstructure replacement at the bridge over South Fork Poplar Swamp between Route 631 (Henry Road) and Route 609 (Gray Road). Work on the bridge, last reconstructed in 1993, will include new steel beams, a new wooden deck and a new up-to-date guardrail.

The work will require a full road closure at the bridge on Route 610 (Harrell Road) with detours in place. Access will be maintained to all existing private property entrances within this corridor.

Motorists traveling southeast from Route 631 (Henry Road) will detour by turning right onto Route 645 (Owen Road) and then right onto Route 609 (Gray Road).

Motorists traveling northwest from Route 610 (Mason Road) will detour by turning right onto Route 609 (Gray Road), turning left onto Route 645 (Owen Road) and turning left onto Route 631 (Henry Road).

The project is anticipated to be complete in mid-fall 2022.

Motorists are advised to plan their commute by using VDOT’s free traffic information tools:
