Comprehensive Plan

Sussex County's Comprehensive Plan is the guiding document for future growth and development decisions in Sussex County. The Commonwealth of Virginia requires that every locality adopt a comprehensive plan for "guiding and accomplishing a coordinated, adjusted and harmonious development of the territory (State code 15.2-2223)". The Comprehensive Plan is produced by county staff, recommended by the county's Planning commission, and adopted by the Sussex County Board of Supervisors. The Plan is implemented through land use ordinances such as the Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance.

Sussex County Comprehensive Plan

The Comprehensive Plan for Sussex County includes a number of Area Plans, which are the components of Sussex County's Land Use Plan and Countywide Plans.

The different components of the land use plan map are consolidated into one Sussex County Land Use Plan Map. An individual interested in knowing the land use recommendation for a particular area in the county identifies the area and clicks on the corresponding section number beneath the map to open a PDF map document of that area.
